LaGuardia student Johghyuk Im chose these rings for the exhibition because they are his parents’ wedding rings. They became special to him when the student started to see photos of his parent’s wedding and saw how long they have these rings with them. The woman ring’s is the bigger one that has more diamonds. The big diamond in the center of the ring is called the center stone and the prong is what holds the stone. The bridge is above the stone. The head is basically the diamond in the middle, the base sizing area is the middle part close to the shank.The side stones are on the two sides right and left of the center stone. The man’s ring has the side stone and a little center stone and a prong holding the little diamond that looks like an eye.

A ring is a circle-shaped jewelry that fits on the finger. Beautiful modern rings like this one are mainly made of metals such as iron, gold, and silver, and even if they are made of grass and flowers, they are named rings if they are shaped like rings. These rings specifically are made of gold and diamonds. Ancient Egyptians first used rings at weddings early in 3000 BC. It was a symbol of eternity not only for the Egyptians but also for many other ancient cultures. The similarity of the current wedding ring and the ancient Roman wedding ring indirectly indicates to others two people are married. The Roman era continued the tradition of the wedding rings. In ancient Rome, the wife was a man’s property right, so if the woman agreed to marry the man, the man gave the ring to the woman’s father. Furthermore, the groom put a key ring on the ring to show that he believed the bride had become his property and made her wear the ring in a public place.
