Converse One Star x GOLF Le FLEUR Shoes

ABOUT

The Converse One Star x GOLF le FLEUR are these vibrant yellow suede sneakers that are a collaboration between Converse and a brand called GOLF le FLEUR. GOLF le FLEUR is a brand owned by the rapper Tyler, the Creator who is also a producer, fashion designer, and actor. The author of the research paper, Destiny Janosik, reveals to us why her pair is so important to her and she also shares information about where the shoe was manufactured and how she managed to snag a pair from a reseller. The designer of the shoe, Tyler, the Creator’s musical evolution ties into these sneakers. Tyler, the Creator went through phases musically, from making vulgar music and creating clothes with upside-down crosses and 666 on them, to evolving into one of my favorite artists and making music that is vibrant and colorful and taking his evolution into his clothes and getting big-time collaborations from Converse and Vans. Tyler, the Creator was the center of many negative headlines in the early 2010s; he even got banned from entering and performing in New Zealand because of his controversial lyrics. Since the release of his album Flower Boy (2017) Tyler has shown a major change in his musical spectrum, he has won two Grammys for best rap album for his albums Igor (2019)  and Call Me If You Get Lost (2021) and because of his die-hard fan base from his early days, he has the freedom of expressing himself without fearing getting canceled like many other artists have. The author does not emphasize how these shoes had an impact on her emotionally; she does not emphasize what sentimental value it holds to owning a shoe by somebody who was negatively viewed in society and since then, has shifted his aesthetic. Also, she did not add any quotes from the creator of the shoe about his approach to making these sneakers and how it differed from his earlier collaborations. A question I have that the paper does not answer is: How did these shoes make the author Destiny Janosik feel to have watched Tyler’s shift in music from his early career to now being able to own and wear one of his biggest collaborations ever and how did this impact the significance she had when her boyfriend bought her those shoes for her birthday?
