Mashada

(Arab Men’s Headdress)

ABOUT

This photographs of Akrm Ahmed’s Mashada shows the true beauty and excellence behind this woven cotton cloth. At this top view angle we can see every stitch highlighted from side to side of this light colored red and white thread. We also see the true craftsmanship of how intense making these pieces are with the thick thread of red coming down all four sides making these amazing squares throughout. We also see on the ends this very pretty fringed white cotton, while this headdress serves a purpose, should also be observed as a piece of art. The mashada is commonly used throughout the Middle East. This men’s headdress garment would be used to shield the people wearing it from the hot sun, and protect from harsh winds with sand. These headdresses are tied in a very specific way, and vary through regions in the Middle East. Each style represents a different region, and people are very specific about this. These days, people in the United States and Japan have been seen to wear these beautiful pieces as fashion, with designs and camo styles that they wear casually.
